CentOS 5.1 Now Available for all VPS packages

I am pleased to announce that ZZ Servers now has CentOS 5.1 available as an option for VPS installation. CentOS or Community Enterprise Operating System is a Linux distribution Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policy and aims to be 100% binary compatible. CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork while retaining the same functionality of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

CentOS has numerous advantages over some of the other clone projects including an active and growing user community, quickly rebuilt, tested, and QA’ed errata packages, an extensive mirror network, developers who are contactable and responsive, multiple free support avenues including IRC Chat, Mailing Lists, Forums, a dynamic FAQ.

The following operating systems are now available for all VPS hosting packages:

  • Debian 4.0 (Etch)
  • Debian 5.0 (Lenny)
  • Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
  • Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron)
  • CentOS 5.1

Currently all of our operating system versions come as a bare install. What that means is we do not pre-install anything other than what it takes to get your server up and running. Not is this method more secure, it allows you to configure the server exactly how you need it.
